Food Systems

It means...

A sustainable food system (SFS) ensures food security and nutrition for all, while preserving the economic, social and environmental foundations necessary to maintain food security and nutrition for future generations.

Sigrid Stagl has used innovation economics, social psychology models and agent-based modelling to deepen our understanding

of decision-making processes in food demand and supply. She has also contributed to the development of the conceptual framework for a call on innovative food systems initiated by a major Austrian funding agency (AWS).

My focus:

My exploration of alternative economic initiatives, such as Community Supported Agriculture, began with applying a needs-based framework and institutional economics. More recently, I have focused on studying food waste and the social and physical structures that can help prevent it. Additionally, I have examined differences in societal perceptions of local, organic, and vegan foods.
