Sigrid Stagl is Professor of Environmental Economics & Policy at WU, the Vienna University of Economics and Business where she is the founder of the Institute for Ecological Economics.

Her work addresses societal challenges such as the climate crisis, environmental problems and inequality.

Integrated Asssessment

People in Haunoldstein, a small community in Lower Austria, have set up a citizens' energy community. From September 2023 to April 2024, they generated 92% of their electricity from local hydro, solar and wind power. My research on social acceptance found that people of Haunoldstein are open to repowering existing wind turbines and expanding PV capacity, but not on fertile agricultural land.
